Midwife-Balimo Hospital
The Midwife at Balimo Hospital, part of the ECPNG Health Services under the Lower Fly Health Agency, plays a vital role in providing comprehensive maternal and neonatal healthcare to the communities in the Delta Fly District. This full-time position involves direct patient care, education, and support for expectant mothers, ensuring safe childbirth practices and promoting maternal and child health in a remote healthcare setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care to mothers and newborns.
- Conduct regular assessments of maternal and fetal health throughout pregnancy.
- Assist in labor and delivery, ensuring safe and supportive childbirth experiences.
- Educate mothers and families on pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, and newborn care.
- Collaborate with healthcare teams to develop and implement care plans for mothers and infants.
- Monitor and document patient progress, reporting any complications to the healthcare team.
- Participate in community health programs, promoting maternal and child health services.
- Provide emotional support and counseling to expectant mothers and their families.
- Train and supervise junior midwifery staff and community health workers in maternal care practices.
- Ensure compliance with health policies, standards, and regulations in midwifery practice.
Requirements
- Valid midwifery registration or license in Papua New Guinea.
- At least 2 years of experience in midwifery practice, preferably in rural or remote settings.
- Strong knowledge of maternal and neonatal health principles and practices.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Cultural sensitivity and understanding of local community dynamics.
- Willingness to work in challenging conditions with limited resources.
- Diploma or Degree in Midwifery from a recognized institution.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) is preferred.
- Additional training in maternal and child health is an advantage.
